Igneous Gneiss boulders show interesting striations of banding when they are created from the layered pages of ancient history in sedimentary sandstone. They are then heated almost to the melting point deep within the earth. These were found within the Little Gate of Rockies as named by Lewis and Clark Expedition back in 1806 as they returned from a winter on the Oregon Coast. The mountain you see in the background is call Emigrant Peak and makes the eastern rampart of Paradise Valley just north of Yellowstone National Park. | ||
